Windows 10 support has ended: what to do now

On 14 October 2025 Microsoft ended free support for Windows 10. Your computer will still switch on, but the system no longer receives regular security updates. Here is what that means in practice.

The risks

New vulnerabilities are found in Windows every month. Without updates they stay open, making the computer an easy target for viruses, ransomware and password theft. Over time new versions of software and drivers also drop Windows 10 support. For work computers holding client data and banking access, this is especially critical.

Can your PC run Windows 11?

  • an Intel 8th-gen or newer, or AMD Ryzen 2000 or newer processor (roughly 2018 onwards);
  • a TPM 2.0 module (most modern boards have one, though it may be disabled in the BIOS);
  • UEFI boot mode with Secure Boot;
  • at least 4 GB RAM and 64 GB storage (8–16 GB and an SSD for comfort).

Your options

  1. The PC qualifies — we upgrade to Windows 11 keeping your files and apps, or do a clean install.
  2. Almost qualifies — often enabling TPM in the BIOS, converting the disk to GPT or adding an SSD and RAM is enough.
  3. Doesn't qualify — we work out whether an upgrade or a new computer makes more sense and help you choose and move your data.
