Why Wi-Fi performs badly
Interference from neighbours. In a Tbilisi apartment block a phone can see 20–40 networks. They all share the same frequencies, and if your router sits on a congested channel, data is sent with constant retries. Obstacles. Concrete walls, floors, mirrors and sliding wardrobes absorb the signal, especially on the 5 GHz band. Outdated equipment. A five-year-old router simply can't deliver the speeds of today's plans. Congestion. Dozens of devices — phones, TVs, cameras, smart bulbs — compete for airtime at once.
People often try to fix this with a cheap shop-bought "booster". But a repeater placed at random often makes things worse: it halves the speed and creates a separate network, so your phone keeps hopping between the two with dropouts.
